Tools

There was a fair amount of research that went into the collection thus far. One problem was a conflicted desire to get some projects done as quickly as possible versus trying to build things the best way possible. It almost, but not quite, came down to a power versus hand tool argument... almost. In the end, I think I've managed to accumulate a decent enough inventory of tools to do both.

The process started with the abundant lists of tools that seem to float around the web. This lead to poring over the annual tool issues from Fine Woodworking/Fine Homebuilding. Krenov lists a number of tools in A Cabinetmaker's Notebook (Woodworker's Library) which mirrors the lists from any number of woodworkers of that generation. There was also the "I Can Do That" tool list, which is more rudimentary, but serves as a good starting point nonetheless. In the end, I landed on a rather extensive list from Hayward and advice from Chris Schwarz.

Although, I couldn't get myself to skip the tablesaw completely for a bandsaw given the overwhelming use of it. I will say, the very first purchase I made was the Blue Spruce Marking Knife. It is (as far as I'm concerned) exquisitely made, highly regarded and the owner is great as well. Although, I will say that I've yet to contact a person related to woodworking that hasn't been generous with their time and knowledge.
